Day in the life . . .

Enjoy driving? Love being on the open road? Want a change of scenery? Want to improve your driving ability? Enjoy being challenged? Can you work as part of a team? Do you have what it takes to be a chauffeur in a ski resort?

Chauffeur positions are normally over looked, as soon as one thinks of doing a season, you automatically think: chef, host or resort manager . . . not chauffeur.

Being a chauffeur is a very important job, you will be required to transport guests from the slopes to the chalet, from restaurants to shops, art galleries to husky sledging. You need to be well presented, well spoken and most of all confidential. Chauffeurs are normally the staff who hear all about the guests holiday, what they like, what they don't like, you will also most likely be caught in between your guests private affairs. Discretion is a top quality needed for this position.

Don't think it is a walk in the park either, you need to have a lot of patience, during busy periods, resorts are hard to negotiate, it could take you 30 minutes to make a 5 minute journey, you could get stuck on your way to resort due to an avalanche, you may have to pull over in -22 degrees to put your snow chains on and of course you are responsible for your guests safety, driving on the edge of a mountain requires a lot of skill.

All chauffeur positions provide training to drive in these difficult conditions, it can be a very rewarding job - for the right candidate and the tips can often be very generous. You will most likely spend most time with your guests out of all the chalet staff. A good knowledge of the resort, restaurants, pistes and local culture is often a bonus, I would recommend swatting up before your interview.

Many chauffeur positions include other responsibilities such as helping the chalet staff, building the fire, snow blowing/ clearing, gritting the outside terraces/ driveway, collecting lift passes. Sometimes you may be required to help with general maintenance around the spa area or collect laundry/ go shopping and so on.

If you have what it takes, enjoy driving, like people, are confident and presentable then get in touch.

If you have already done a season as a chauffeur - Silver Swan would love to hear all about your experience as a driver, 'a day in the life' - we may even feature you on our blog . . .
