Val Thorens Snow Park is opening in a few weeks and with the amount of snow out there we are sure it will be a huge success.

The Snow Park is one of the bigger parks in Europe and opens on the 23rd November 2014.

Thought for the Weekend . .

This weekend Great Britian Alpine Skiers Dave Ryding and Alex Tilley will be taking part in the Slalom World Cup in Levi, Finland.

Silver Swan would like to take the opportunity to wish our GB team good luck (and not to break any bones) especially to Dave Ryding who is running to compete at the Sochi 2014 Olymic Winter Games in February.

Ryding is currently the reigning Europa Cup Slalom Champion, the Slalom World Cup will be his first race of the European season.

Job of the week

This week our featured job is Resort Manager (Hotel & Restaurant) in Les Gets, France.

We are looking for someone to run a boutique hotel and restaurant in the centre of Les Gets, described as the ultimate piste side retreat with a funky urban interior and the latest in ski luxury, facilities include an outdoor hot tub, wet suite, sauna, massage room and piste side bar, terrace and restaurant.

The hotel sleeps upto 29 guests in 9 bedrooms.

The right candidate will have overall responsibility for the day to day activities of the Company in resort and will need to be very flexible. You will need to be confident and keep cool under immense pressure whilst maintaining a consistently positive outlook.

Winter season and hotel/ restaurant management experience together with a proven record in man management and organisational skills is essential. A good knowledge of French is also preferable.
You also need to have held a full driving license for at least three years.

An outline of duties will include:

Hotel:
- Effectively manage and oversee the hotel team
- Ensure outstanding customer service and guest satisfaction
- Maintain and develop good relations within resort with all existing and new supplier and owner contacts
- Quality control of all hotel standards including, food & beverage, cleaning budget control and in chalet service
- Preparation and organisation of transfer day
- Manage all resort vehicles
- Ensure all weekly paperwork is completed and complete resort accounts

Restaurant:
- Supervising and coordinating all restaurant staff
- Assisting any staff with their duties if required
- Maintaining good relationships with suppliers
- Dealing with customer complaints in the restaurant
- Responsibility for bank account, income, maintaining restaurant budgets, expenditure and receipts
- Working with the head chef maintaining correct stock levels and ordering of products
- Making accurate weekly accounting returns

Yes the season is finally upon us, the lifts in Verbier opened today and the snow is falling thick and fast across the Alps.

Some ski companies are still on the search for their final staff to complete the season and Silver Swan have been put in charge of making that happen. To make that happen we need your help. . . .

Are you heading out for a season and have friends at home jealous of your soon to be wobbly ski legs? Why not send them our way and receive a bottle of fizz if your friend is lucky enough to be placed.

We are looking for chefs in particular but also chef/ host couples. So if you have some very talented friends who don't mind working hard in return for the time of their life hitting champagne powder for the next 5 months then send them our e mail address and lets get the ball rolling.

Were waiting for ski goggles like this!!!

Why have ski goggles not been created with 'windscreen' wipers yet to get rid of the snow blurring your vision?

Definitely something we think needs to be created - the flashing lights on the video below is also a funky touch - could work well for night skiing is you ask us!!
